Renowned Liberian rapper MC Caro has openly expressed her disappointment with the majority of Liberian DJs and On-Air Personalities (OAPs), calling them out for failing to promote and support local music. According to MC Caro, only a small fraction – around 4-5% – of Liberian DJs and OAPs are genuinely pushing Liberian music forward, while the rest merely play songs once they have already become hits.

In her critique, MC Caro highlighted the difference between simply playing music and truly DJing, claiming that many Liberian DJs lack the skills to properly DJ Liberian songs. “With the vast amount of good Liberian songs out there, I’m disappointed in you guys,” she remarked, giving credit to the few who continue to support Liberian music out of love for their country.

The rapper also emphasized that all DJs and OAPs based in Liberia should be considered Liberian DJs and OAPs, making it unethical and unprofessional for them to claim that they are not obligated to promote local music. “As long as you are a DJ or OAP on Liberian soil, you are a Liberian DJ/OAP,” she asserted, adding that it is the responsibility of DJs to help turn potential songs into hits.

MC Caro further explained that many songs do not become instant hits on their own and require the push and backing of DJs and OAPs to gain traction. However, she believes that most Liberian DJs only start playing a song once it has already gained popularity, rather than helping to make it popular in the first place.

In closing, MC Caro gave a shout-out to the few DJs and OAPs who are dedicated to promoting Liberian music and helping to turn potential hits into success stories. “Shout out to the real ones doing it for love of country,” she said, urging the rest to step up and do their part in supporting the local music scene.
